Kaytie and I had our first shared interview together with the lead-singer of one of our favorite bands, Schuyler Croom of He Is Legend! We talked about their new album White Bat, which is coming out on June 28th.
On how the new album fits into their catalog:
…It’s drunk, it’s a little drunker. I mean…it’s a…Swagger is a good word. We like to use the sleaze..is a little on eleven on this. It’s a little sleazier. And I guess…People have come to expect us to..Morph a bit when we are writing. People kind of talk about how each record sounds different, but I think this is…A menagerie of all of our sounds. But we always breach a new topic essentially, with like finding a sound that we might not ever play with again. There is a little bit of everything…The way we release this singles..”White Bat” is the first track on the album, “Boogiewoman” is the last track on the album, so if you want an A to B…everything in between..We are excited for the reveal, y’know?
On playing the new material live:
We’ve played “White Bat” on a few of these tours that we’ve been on lately. We just started playing “Boogiewoman” live, at least at the headlining shows in between these shows with The Damned Things. The reception is crazy and the kids are like “This is the He Is Legend that I grew up with and it’s also the He Is Legend that I live with now”. Like somehow we’ve found…A recap of all the chapters that we’ve created in this like giant book of…maniacal music that we’ve been writing for years, but yeah we have new life and new energies. Everything’s just running…like a well oiled machine. And that is what rock’n’roll is supposed to be about.
