On Saturday, Cutter and Kaytie headed into Chicago for a show at The Bottom Lounge with The Used. Before the show, the pair caught up with The Used frontman Bert McCracken and spoke about the band’s 20 year career, a new album, and Bert all but confirmed tour with My Chemical Romance.
When it comes to the new record Paradise Lost, Bert explained that the band said ‘yes’ to trying all types of things and originally wrote about 30 songs before cutting that in half for the record:
“We had about 30 songs finished and I think there’s only 15 on the record so we’ll have a really cool B-Sides record coming out hopefully later this year. We wanted the record to kinda showcase the different elements within the studio. Like some of the songs sound straight live like you would be hearing them from the stage. And some of the songs are kind of back to the first and second record style of production where it’s like some of the sounds are full production, its full like you’re in a little world of your own inside these songs.”
The title track of the record, which will be the first single (coming soon) includes a piece that was originally written as a poem in 2012.
“There’s a little arrangement in a song we made with a really special poem of mine, its the title track for the record on this new one and the poem has been around probably since 2012. I wrote it in a really kind of horrible moment, a violent moment, an extreme moment. But you captured it and so you have that feeling, you have that little kind of capsule of that moment kind of ready, locked and loaded, whenever you want to pull it out, where ever you want to put it. And if it’s good, it really does, you can read it five or six years later and be like okay I still feel that. I still feel that from where it came from.”
On the subject of My Chemical Romance… Bert all but confirmed that The Used would be on the tour:
“When we first met My Chemical Romance, they were my favorite band. I brought them out all over the world. There’s a reason why they blew up and they’re one of the biggest bands of all time. They’re amazing. Been talking to Gerard and it wouldn’t surprise anyone to see The Used on that tour.”
He then continued with
“I’m not saying… I’m joking. Come on, you know me, I’m a kidder.”
Bert made the insinuation on stage later Saturday night, and earlier in the week at a show in Colorado.

So, while we can’t confirm 100 percent that The Used will be on The My Chemical Romance tour, we’re pretty sure it’s happening.
