Sum 41 long remembered for their pop-punk sound from the early 00’s will be back with a double album entitled Heaven and Hell. Though they haven’t announced a release date for the double album they have given some insight as to what it will sound like. Deryck Whibely told Rolling Stone that the Heaven portion of the record will have their classic pop-punk style while the Hell will be all metal. Whibely was asked about what inspired the metal side and had this to say.
‘Some of the metal stuff comes with a lot of anger for people who have stolen from me and hurt me in the past.’
While the pop-punk side has a decidedly different direction.
‘…it’s feel-good music. There’s something that’s happy about it. Something young and innocent and free.’
This isn’t the first time Sum 41 has played in the realm of metal, their 2019 song ‘Out For Blood’ was a vast departure from the sound that had made them famous nearly two decades earlier.
