I attended my first Summerfest! It was WILD. I walked in around 3 pm, grabbed a lemonade, and was instantly part of a parade where a mermaid was riding on a decked-out golf cart while playing a ukelele. This was followed by a group of people performing a Dragon Dance and a man juggling fire. Our main reason for attendance was to see Halsey at the American Family Insurance Amphitheater at 7 pm. Luckily, there wasn’t a shortage of things to do for the four hours we had to kill. We rode the Sky Glider to get a lay of the land. We watched the band LIT (famous for ‘My Own Worst Enemy’). We ate some pretzels, my husband drank beer (pregnant girl summer over here), we ate some pizza… we ate some cheesecake… we ate some nachos… ok, we mostly ate. I was able to check out the band Arlie who was new to me but definitely my vibe. We watched Houndmouth perform, they’re a staple in our household. Before we knew it, 7 pm came creeping in just as the rain did & we were off to the AmFamAmp!

Halsey started up in the rafters and sang The Tradition which was an epic entrance to an INSANE performance. If you’re unfamiliar with this last album, “If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power”, it is accompanied by a movie. The concert had some clips of the film playing in the background which I had never seen before. They had strobe lights, pyrotechnics, and lasers; they even painted a picture while they sang “Be Kind”. This is a concert I will NEVER forget — what an experience!
My personal favorites of the performance were, “Lilith”, “The Lighthouse”, “Colors”, & “Gasoline”. I was hoping they would sing some of their older, edgy stuff. I’ve been a huge Halsey fan since High School & was hoping to hear “Ghost” and “Garden”, but I guess I’ll have to keep seeing them until I do hear those.
