I do a lot of interviews and sometimes I forget to post them because my brain is squishy and riddled with post-concussion trauma, forgive me! Good thing I saved my work and went back through it to see what I missed because this was one of the interviews I never posted!
Arejay and I have talked on the phone probably 5 or 7 times in my radio career and the interview posted below is the first one where we’ve been able to see each other, it was nice! I asked him about what makes his life feel more ‘rock n roll’ and he said this.
‘…Sometimes you get the itch, you just wanna crank some Korn, Slipknot or System of a Down…you just gotta wait until the mood hits ya, you know?’
Our conversation switched to what his work life outside of Halestorm has been and through some spotty service we got this little gem.
‘…I kind of realized ‘oh I’m a songwriter now!’ It started with writing pop songs and piano ballads, synth heavy stuff…I always love having that edge there. Now I’m really grateful for it, because I feel even in the pop world if you listen to artists like Harry Styles, Olivia Rodrigo, and Post Malone you can hear there’s like a heavier edge under-layer…people are wanting to hear that edginess again.‘
