Last time Mark and I chatted we talked about his new charity efforts and his album of Frank Sinatra covers. He raised money for the NAtional Downs Syndrome foundation and took a chance for charity. Find out more on that endeavor here!
Our chat last week was about the new album from Alter Bridge entitled Pawns & Kings. An album that is both heavier and more progressive than their previous efforts, which Mark explains in the interview was intentional while also being unintentional. He and Myles worked on songs from different ends of the country during the last 18 months or so and when it came to putting the album together they both found that many of the riff ideas they had, combined perfectly into some badass songs. Those work parts also coincided with the length of some of them as well, which Mark explains in the interview below.
We also chat it up about how the last 18 years of Alter Bridge has been and what it’s like looking back at his past accomplishments. He said it’s kind of like looking back at old school photos and wondering why the hell you’re wearing that shirt of have that haircut. I asked what it’s like to be a dad in the metal and rock scene and he said his kids are so used to it they don’t even react when people like James Hetfield hang out, which is absolutely crazy! Mark Tremonti is always a treat to hang out with and I hope they come around here soon!
