A lost song brought forth to the present, making us feel every emotion under the sun.
Celebrating the 20th anniversary of their album Meteora this year, Linkin Park has dropped an unreleased song from the 2003 recording sessions titled “Lost,” and it features late frontman Chester Bennington on vocals. It is the first thing Linkin Park has done since the 2017 Chester Bennington tribute show at the Hollywood Bowl following his death earlier that year.
Due to the fact that Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda stated last April that the band had no plans to release any new music or perform any live shows, the release of “Lost” appears to be a one-off moment to commemorate 20 years of Meteora, at which time the new song was recorded. Shinoda also stated that Linkin Park is not actively looking for a new vocalist, while also stating if a new vocalist were to come to fruition organically, he’d be open to exploring where that would lead.
“Lost” hits so hard on so many levels. Hearing a new song with Chester is even more emotional than anticipated, and when you listen to the lyrics you find that they deal with inner struggle and trying to cope with pain when stuck alone inside your mind. It’s a whirlwind of emotions, and a song that perfectly illustrates the torment those who suffer from any mental illness feel on a daily basis. It is quite powerful. The lyrics from “Lost” have been included below.
We miss you Chester. Your talent is immeasurable, and your light on this world will always shine bright. We miss you every day. Check out the lyrics and official music video for “Lost” below.
Linkin Park – “Lost” Lyrics (Via AZLyrics)
Just a scar somewhere down inside of me
Something I can not repair
Even though it will always be
I pretend it isn’t there (This is how it feel)
I’m trapped in yesterday (This is how it will be)
Where the pain is all I know (This is all I know)And I’ll never break away (Can’t break free)
‘Cause when I’m aloneI’m lost in these memories
Living behind my own illusion
Lost all my dignity
Living inside my own confusionBut I’m tired
I will always be afraid
Of the damage I’ve received
Broken promises they made
And how blindly I believed (This is all I know)And I’ll never break away (Can’t break free)
‘Cause when I’m aloneI’m lost in these memories
Living behind my own illusion
Lost all my dignity
Living inside my own confusionI try to keep this pain inside
But I will never be alright
I try to keep this pain inside
But I will never be alright
I try to keep this pain inside (I’m lost)
But I will never be alright
I try to keep this pain inside (I’m lost)
But I will never be alrightI’m lost in these memories
Living behind my own illusion
Lost all my dignity
Living inside my own confusion
