Talking with Brandon of Atreyu is always a pleasure! And when we have new music to talk about it’s even better. Right from the get go you can tell something big is brewing the Atreyu camp. Brandon hypes you up.
‘I think that, if people are fans of Atreyu or have been with us for a while, now is a really special time to pay attention. Especially with our live show, there is something happening on stage with us right now that’s just not like anything we’ve ever been able to accomplish before…it’s something special, you gotta see it…there’s some kind of voodoo magic on our band that just feels great…’
Talking about touring we had to touch on the year in review, being on the Trinity of Terror tour, sharing the stage with Nothing More and Asking Alexandria and being in front of big crowds.
‘For some reason that’s comfortable for us…that like a happy comfort zone for us. It really helped us to open up…(and to be) play(ing) in front of a lot of new people as surprising as that is being a band for as long as we have, we’re still playing to a lot of new faces…Seeing that switch go on, one by one, and realizing what worked and honing in on our strong suits…”
I had to ask him about the videos they’ve put together for this new EP and he said they were a great chance for the to show their fun side.
‘We’ve always had these serious videos and we were like, “That’s dumb why don’t we just show ourselves and show our personalities and make fun videos?” and you can see that in our last two videos, they’re just fun and ridiculous…the main difference is we were able to hone in on what we are now…’
Asking about the forthcoming EP Hope Of A Spark and had Brandon explain the title.
‘I think a lot of our theme of the songs especially right now are kind of dealing with the cycles of life, the seasons of life and respecting the downs as much as you respect the ups. And I think ‘the Hope of a Spark’ is that place…that’s like the absolute bottom. Where you’re kind of lost and don’t know what lies ahead, you don’t have any answers in front of you. So it’s kind of just that hope of something to like help guide you to where you need to be wherever that is…’
There were Instagram posts about Brandon getting set on fire during the filming of the ‘Watch Me Burn’ video so I wanted to know what being lit on fire was like.
‘I wanted to go to my grave saying that was me but that was the best stunt double I’ve ever seen in my life…the dude moved like me!…They had to light that dude on fire like 3 or 4 times.’
A new EP is coming soon entitled Hope Of A Spark features the latest songs ‘Drowning’ and ‘Watch Me Burn’ and they’ll be out on tour for next few months with a hope of a Wisconsin stop in the second leg.
