On October 6, Epic Event Center will host the second annual Operation Song Benefit, which will be headlined by Grammy-winning songwriter, solo artist and voice of Creed, Scott Stapp.
Operation Song is a non-profit organization that pairs Nashville songwriters and veterans together to turn their stories of service into song. The benefit is presented by Razor and will be emceed by Cutter from WAPL. Acoustic performances will take place throughout the night by Stapp, Nashville hall of fame songwriter Bob DiPiero, #1 hit songwriter Rob Crosby, Nashiville songwriter Matt McKinney, and country music artist and songwriter AJ Kross. DiPiero is the writer behind fifteen US #1 hits and several top 20 singles for artists like George Strait, Tim McGraw, Reba McEntire, Faith Hill, Brooks & Dunn and more.
The songwriters will be performing their own hits and the stories behind them that evening, along with the songs that they will be writing earlier in the day with the local veterans at a private writing retreat. The writing process that the veterans undergo with the songwriters gives them an opportunity to unlock and express their deeply personal experiences and feelings. A live auction will be held that evening as well, with all proceeds going directly to Operation Song programming for veterans and their families.
“I am honored to join Operation Song in Green Bay with one of the most cathartic forms of expression – music. To release your emotions through songwriting and performance is a powerful experience and Operation Song’s guided process helps veterans release certain emotions while sharing powerful and courageous stories of service,” shared Scott Stapp.
The Executive Director of Operation Song and retired Army First Sergeant, Mike Byer, stated, “If there was ever a show that demonstrates the healing power of music, this is it. For service members, discretion is as important as valor, so putting personal, visceral experiences into words is challenging. The songwriters we work with are true professionals who help translate Veterans’ stories of sacrifice, comradery, and loyalty into compelling, relatable songs.”
