Emma Boster of Dying Wish wants everyone to know that they WILL NOT be cancelling any shows due to her hand injury. She also talked about the album Symptoms Of Survival and what they sought out to do when recording.
‘…We spent those two months mapping out what we wanted to talk about what the subject matter on the album was going to be and the goal was to…elevate it past Fragments in a way where…Fragments was a lot about suffering and this record has a lot of that theme but it’s more about the acceptance of it. ‘
Emma continues about what the song ‘Lost In The Fall’ is about her personal fears of failure and the pressure felt from the outside world.
‘It was just me feeling that kind of pressure to be in the public eye, because I’m a really normal person, I’m kind of shy, personally, and I was kind of crippled by all the attention, feeling like we weren’t going to be able to live up to the hype…’
We chatted about the videos for the singles and how Emma approached the vocals to this new record.
‘I just love singing so much, I love screaming too, but singing is like my first love…We just kind of realized that I have a pretty spectacular singing voice and there’s not a lot of people that are able to have the range of sound that we have that really stays true to like a Killswitch (Engage) throwback… I listened to End of Heartache everyday for about 2 months leading up to this record because that was something we really wanted to achieve was that really dynamic, epic chorus sound but then of course the riffs and the heavy breakdowns and really staying true to our sound as well….There is a lot more clean singing on the record but there is also a lot of songs that have no cleans in them they’re just straight out of the gate the heaviest songs we’ve ever made, which is awesome…’
She said one last thing that really stood out about the record and her vocals.
‘I have only been doing vocals for about 6 or 7 years, screaming, so I finally feel like I’m at the point to where I’m really able to feel comfortable enough to express different sides of my range and I wanted to show off that I could do that as well.’
Truly a fun conversation that dives into the Hardcore scene, music video production and that one tour with Limp Bizkit.
