FOND DU LAC, Wis. — A Campbellsport woman and three 16-year-old boys are suspected of killing hundreds of deer in Fond du Lac, Dodge and Washington counties between spring of 2023 and summer of this year.
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources conducted a two-month investigation into the shooting and/or killings of more than 100 deer over a 200-square-mile area.
According to the sheriff’s office, the investigation determined most of the incidents took place after dark into the early morning hours. In some cases, the animals were shot while others were struck intentionally by the suspect’s vehicle.
The suspects allegedly shone spotlights in fields, shot and killed the deer leaving doe carcasses alone while taking heads from some buck carcasses. The sheriff’s office says some “selfie” videos were taken after the killings.
The investigation found other wildlife were targeted by the suspects.
Numerous charges are being referred to district attorneys in Fond duc Lac, Washington and Dodge counties. Those charges include Mistreating Animals resulting in death, possession of a dangerous weapon and hunting during closed season.
The suspects have not been identified.
