At the turn of the century System of a Down became one of the biggest rock bands on the planet. Their now legendary album Toxicity sold millions of copies and songs from that album are mainstays on radio and have now taken on new life on TikTok and other social platforms. They haven’t released a new album since 2005’s Hypnotize and other than two stand-alone singles in 2020 we haven’t heard much from the band. Meanwhile, members like guitarist Daron Malakian has another band called Scars on Broadway, singer Serj Tankian has put out plenty of music under his own name, and bassist Shavo Odadjian just launched a new band called Seven Hours After Violet.
All this hasn’t stopped System of a Down from playing a few one of shows like headlining major rock festivals, as of this week that changes. While there doesn’t seem to be any new music on the horizon, (although that could change,) System of a Down just announced three different stadium shows in 2025, and they are including a few other legends of the Nu-Metal era.
August 28th at Metlife Stadium in New York City with Korn
August 31st at Soldier Field in Chicago with Avenged Sevenfold
September 3rd at Rogers Stadium in Toronto with The Deftones
All three of those shows will have opening acts Polyphia and Wisp with tickets going on sale Friday, December 13th at 10 am and an artist presale starting Wednesday December 11th at Noon. Sounds like it’s road trip time!
If you never got the chance to see System of a Down live, let’s just say they are a treat, here’s their 2015 show Live in Armenia. Not only do you see a great show, but we learn something about the Armenian genocide, something the band as stood up against throughout their careers as they themselves are Armenian.
