Girls hockey was in the spotlight Saturday at Tri-County Ice Arena in Fox Crossing.
For the first time, players at all levels for the Fox Cities Freeze and Green Bay Bobcats squared off in games.
Payton Smith is on the Fox Cities Freeze 14U team, and she doesn’t think girls hockey gets enough recognition, especially compared to boys hockey.
Fox River Freeze coach Chris Schmear believes girls and women’s hockey is more popular than ever before. He hopes the special day will bring more attention to it, and encourage more girls to play.
