Freedom High School is holding a unique graduation ceremony, at a drive-in movie theater.
Seniors and their families will watch a video program on the big screen at Field of Scenes, from their cars, on Sunday.
Principal Kurt Erickson says they recorded the students walking across the stage in the school theater, while wearing their cap and gown. They scheduled the students in 12-minute intervals.
He says band and choir students recorded themselves, and their videos were put together, so both groups could perform as they typically would on graduation day. Valedictorian and other speeches were also recorded, and they’ll be part of the program.
The ceremony will start at dusk on Sunday.
Erickson says they got the idea from a school in the eastern part of the country. He feels lucky to have an outdoor theater in the community.
Little Chute High School will also hold its graduation ceremony there next month.
