It’s been a hell of a last 18-36 months. We’ve all had to face an insane amount of everything all at once and that’s taken a toll on our collective mental health. Some bands went into the studio to release some of the rage they had built inside of them from what they saw on their TV’s and Twitter feeds. Others, like Islander, decided that the world had enough hate and divide and decided to write an album about the struggles we all have but wrap in a hefty dose of hope. Hope is a big word and one that Mikey Carvajal wanted to make sure was a major takeaway from their latest album It’s Not Easy Being Human.
We chat about that and about the shear amount of features that this album posses. From the opening track ‘We Scream’ which has Spencer from Underoath to ‘Lights, Camera, Action’ which has Sonny from P.O.D. and the title track which features the always amazing Lacey Sturm, this album is a must listen! If you want heavy, it’s got that. If you want groovy, it’s got that. If you want hope, it certainly has that as well. Islander is here to rock and I’m here for that.
