“The Boogeyman” hits theaters next Friday (June 2), bringing a fresh twist to Stephen King’s classic tale under the direction of Rob Savage. According to Bloody Disgusting, it draws inspiration from King’s 1973 short story of the same name, delivering a film that the average horror film lover will not want to miss.
The story revolves around Sadie Harper, a 16-year-old played by Sophia Thatcher, and her 10-year-old sister Sawyer, played by Vivien Lyra Blair. The two are dealing with the unexpected passing of their mother, plunging them into a world of grief.
Adding to the turmoil is their father, Will Harper, a therapist played by Chris Messina. Will is emotionally closed off and not much support to the Harper sisters, as he is dealing with his own grief and pain.
One day, Lester Billings, played by David Dastmalchian, unexpectedly shows up at Will’s home office. He is a patient looking for aid from Will. Little do they know, Lester’s entrance into their home will leave a malevolent presence that will prey on the Harper children and the family’s suffering.
This film offers a rollercoaster of emotions, from grief to terror, and many well-executed scares that will linger long after the credits roll.
If this sounds like something you definitely want to watch, mark your calendars for June 2, grab a blanket and some popcorn, and get ready to not sleep that night.
